The Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association provides opportunities and resources for citizens to take action in protecting what’s most important to them. Together with local RCMP detachments, we create a strong awareness and presence of the law and help reduce crime.
The RCMP K Division wants to get the message out that the recent discoveries of burial sites at or near residential schools across the country has sparked a wave of sadness and reflection throughout Canada, particularly in First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities and where residential schools were located. Alberta had the largest number of residential schools among all the provinces/territories, with as many as 25 schools operating here at one time.
The Alberta RCMP continues to be committed to building upon our relationships with Indigenous peoples based on respect, co-operation, and partnership. The Alberta RCMP is compiling a list of all residential school locations in Alberta, along with possible burial sites.
Given these troubling discoveries and recent fires and vandalism at locations throughout Canada, they are asking the community partners to please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities at places of worship, including vandalism relating to public monuments, buildings, and other possible locations. The eyes and ears of the Rural Crime Watch and Citizens on Patrol partners are vital to crime prevention. They are requesting that you contact your local Alberta RCMP detachment if you see any suspicious activity.

Report crime online!
The RCMP are encouraging all Albertans to report eligible crimes online (select property crimes under $5,000). Reporting less serious crimes online helps emergency dispatch and frontline members focus their time on high-priority calls. It provides a convenient way to share photos to the RCMP as well. These reports assist in crime analysis, aid in establishing trends and patterns, and ultimately leads investigators to the chronic offenders. It also assists in making decisions about how and where to deploy resources. Crimes reported online will be taken just as seriously as crime reported in any other way.
