Power of Civil Society

Power of Civil Society

Preventive Community Services is pleased to advise that the Civil Society Fund (CSF) is now accepting applications.

The CSF is one of nine platform commitments related to harnessing the power of civil society. It will provide $20 million over three years to expand civil society capacity to address social issues, including $7 million in 2020-21 to support a lasting and effective recovery for civil society from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Civil society groups, including not-for-profits, charities, First Nations and Metis Settlements, can submit one-time funding proposals for projects that expand civil society organizations’ capacity to innovate and collaborate more effectively in their efforts to address social issues in our diverse communities.

While the CSF is focused on recovery, it is not about restoring previous ways of doing business or supporting ongoing programs and services. Instead, the CSF’s intent is to support transformational change through strategic investments that make the sector stronger, more effective and resilient. In short, the CSF is challenging civil society organizations to “think big”.

The CSF’s design was informed by advice from the Premier’s Council on Charities and Civil Society provided in the Council’s report, Moving Forward: Charting a Path to Civil Society Recovery.

Civil society groups and organizations are encouraged to visit https://alberta.ca/civil-society-fund.aspx to review the CSF guidelines and download the application form. Applications are due on January 20, 2021. Please share this information with your teams and civil society partners and stakeholders.
